Improving Your Health with Functional Lab Tests

Sometimes great health isn’t as easy as tv commercials make it seem.  Sometimes you need more than just regular exercise and cutting out the cake.

When you aren’t feeling great, and you know you are really trying, but your efforts aren’t getting you anywhere….what do you do? Has your doctor told you that you feel this way because you are just getting older? If this is the case, its time to dig into the root cause. Science has come a long way toward providing us tools to help you get back to feeling your best. This is where functional lab tests are really helpful.

Lets talk about a few of them, so you can see what is available, and how they can help you feel better.

Food Sensitivity Testing – If you suffer from acid reflux, gerd, arthritis, chronic fatigue, constipation, diarrhea, gas, bloating and other gut or immune related conditions, this is a good place to start. Once you know what foods are triggering your reactions, you can eliminate them for a few months, and begin to reintroduce them in rotation so that your gut can heal, and you can stay healthy.

MTHFR

MTHFR Testing – Are you kidding me? No, I’m not. MTHFR stands for methylenetetrahydrafolate reductase. It’s an enzyme involved in your detox pathways, that is genetically impacted by one of several genetic defects. Scientists now estimate that nearly 50% of people worldwide have one or more snp’s for this defect. Testing for MTHFR provides you with clues as to how to support your body with vitamins and other nutrition to prevent health challenges such as, heart attacks, stroke, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, cancer, arthritis, dementia, alzheimers, and many more. 24 Hour Adrenal Stress Test – Long periods of emotional and physical stress are hard on your body; particularly the adrenal glands. I’ve seen recent statistics stating that 80% of disease is attributed to unmanaged stress. Too much cortisol produced by the adrenals can cause rapid aging and rampant inflammation. Too little cortisol is a sign that the stress has gone on for so long that the adrenals have entered the exhaustion phase, and energy is depleted. This test is recommended for anyone living in the modern world, who has experienced stress, or is dealing with other chronic health conditions or chronic pain.

Organic Acids Test -The Organic Acids Test (OAT) provides an accurate evaluation of intestinal yeast and bacteria. Abnormally high levels of these microorganisms can cause or worsen behavior disorders, hyperactivity, movement disorders, fatigue and immune function. Many people with chronic illnesses and neurological disorders often excrete several abnormal organic acids. The cause of these high levels could include: oral antibiotic use, high sugar diets, immune deficiencies, and genetic factors.

If abnormalities are detected using the OAT, treatments can include supplements, such as vitamins and antioxidants, or dietary modification. Upon treatment, patients and practitioners have reported significant improvement such as decreased fatigue, regular bowel function, increased energy and alertness, increased concentration, improved verbal skills, less hyperactivity, and decreased abdominal pain.

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis – This test is a non-invasive sampling of hair which is analyzed for mineral status and heavy metal burden. This test is recommended as a means to determine mineral balance and to find out if you are toxic from heavy metal exposure which can lead to organ failure, and chronic disease and pain.

All of these functional lab tests are available at Serene Spirit Center. With the above tools and many more, we are able to investigate why you feel the way you do, and create a road map to follow back to optimal health.

May you be richly blessed, now and always!
